Glock 19 Gen 5 Bullets - Thirty-six years ago, a man who made knives, shower curtain rods and kitchen cabinet accessories in his garage returned to making his first gun. What he came up with some would say is the best gun ever produced. Log on to any gun forum and you'll see lovers and haters going at it. What made this man, who was in his 50s, suddenly decide to send himself and his family to the firearms factory? In the early 80s, the Austrian army was in the process of choosing a new rifle for its troops.

Gaston Glock was already supplying the army with knives and ammunition connections when he heard a few generals talking about the hearing process. Gaston felt he could make something better than anyone else and asked if he could submit a plan.

Yes, in 1982 the Austrian army chose the Glock 17 as their new rifle. It's been a roller coaster ride since. By 1984, Bell was a household name here in the United States of America. Gaston's creation quickly became the gun of choice for 65% of our police departments. Not only did small local departments flock to the Glock, the FBI, Secret Service, Navy SEALs, and Army Rangers now chose Glock as their sidearm. Bell pistols have made their way into the hands of people all over the world. Currently, 35 countries have adopted them for their police and military. Basically, Glock's pistol took the firearms market as a Category 5 by storm. It is estimated that there are over 5 million Glock pistols in private hands here in America. Glock has 19% of the market compared to Smith & Wesson's 16%. Gaston has always strived for perfection in all of his company's products, hence the introduction of the 5th generation Glock 17 and 19.

Review: Lone Wolf Arms Ltd19 V1

The price tag of the Gen 5 hovers slightly higher than that of the Gen 4.  A quick check of local stores found them to be priced anywhere from $608 to $678. So what do you get to justify the extra cost?

First, most Glock fans will be pleased about the lack of finger grooves on the Gen 5. Gen 3 and 4 Glock pistols have finger grooves molded into their grips, which alienates some with small hands and large hands alike. Glock's decision to remove the finger grooves is a solid one, as it will fit more comfortably in the hands of more people.

The new Glock also sports a new ion bond finish called "nDLC" which gives it a darker color and adds to its scratch resistance. The new finish also helps lubricate the slide for more reliable feeding and cycling. Glock listened to its fan base and included an ambidextrous slide stop. No more fumbling with your non-dominant hand to function the slide stop. We also get a flared magwell, new sight options and a smooth muzzle to aid in holstering.

Inside, there are many changes starting with new rifling in its barrels, smoother trigger and a more reliable takedown mag to name a few. In all, there are over 20 changes to the 5th generation Glock. So what do all these adjustments mean? Now according to Glock, the Gen 5 is more reliable, more accurate, fits better in your hands and it's lighter.

Glock 19x [review]: A 9mm To Be Reckoned With

I had to get my hands on one to see for myself. I stopped at Freedom Firearms in Battle Creek and was able to run the Gen5 G17 there. I ran through one box of ammo in their indoor area to see if it lives up to all the hype. I immediately noticed that the orange magazine follower was able to quickly estimate how many rounds I had loaded into the magazine.

The grip felt good, but then again I thought the Gen 1, 2, 3 and 4s felt good too. I personally have never had a problem with the finger grooves on any of my Glock pistols. The grip texture is the same as it was on the Gen 4. It fit in my hands exactly the same as the Gen 4. The slight flare of the magwell was barely noticeable and made it a little easier to load into the gun. Glock Gen 5 sights look the same as on previous Glock pistols, but instead of seeing the basket and half of the ball you can now see the full ball. Bell should have made the cut in the rear sight a little deeper, so that better acquisition of the front sight is possible. The trigger on the Gen 5 is much improved over previous generations. Gone are the Glock 19 trigger ribs, we now get the same trigger texture previously only found on the larger frame Glock pistols. The rigid wall, which is difficult to pull through, has been replaced by a much softer wall, which can be pulled through more easily. It reminded me of how a Gen 4 feels with a Ghost connector installed.

Between the smoother trigger and improved rifling, Glock says you can expect a 4″ group at 50 yards. Most of us shoot from our hands and not a bench, so the accuracy won't be as good as advertised. One problem that most Glock shooters have, especially with the older generations of Glock, is the tendency to shoot low and left (or right for southpaws). To see if the ergonomics of the Gen5 caused me to shoot low and left, I set the target at 7 meters and fired one round into the center of the target. I couldn't be more excited, the bullet is just dead. What a great way to start the day. I fired 5 rounds to acclimate to the trigger and then slowly shot 3 groups of 5 to see how accurate it was. My groups averaged 1.5″

I then rapidly fired the remaining rounds into the center of the target. Recoil was very manageable, not too snappy. My rapid fire group size was 2.5″. Not bad for a first time out. I think with a little more time on the trigger I could easily get the group size down to an inch or less at 7 meters.

How Many Bullets Does A Glock Hold? [all You Need To Know]

So is the new 5th generation Glock 19/17A a must buy? For me yes, I currently own a generation 2 Glock 23 and two generation 3s; A Glock 17 and 19.  The differences in accuracy and shooting ability of the Gen 5 was obvious at the first pull of the trigger, that alone is enough to justify me buying a new Glock. If I had the gen 4 bell, I might not be so quick to make the jump because the improvements from gen 4 to gen 5 don't justify the cost to me, the pistols form tight. Now I just have to figure out how to justify to my wife that this bell is different and better than the ones I already have and that I should keep them all. Glock's introduction of the Generation 5 pistol was much anticipated. The new pistol offers significant changes - more than any previous generation. The first change to the bell was the addition of a light rail. Next, came the finger groove frame and the rough texture frame later. However, not everyone likes the finger grooves or RTF frame.

The author tests the pistol with many loads. Finally, he also added the thin beavertail grip and found it to be an excellent fit.

Remarkably, through each generation, the pistol maintains its reputation for reliability and function. Some mechanical changes were made. The pistol that is generally considered to be the most reliable of the Glock variants is the Glock 17. That is why we chose the Generation 5 Glock 17 variant for this review.

There is also a Glock 19 compact version. Bell tells us, there are currently no plans to offer the Generation 5 in .40 caliber. Glock offers the Generation 5 as a result of law enforcement requirements, especially the FBI and the new 'M' class FBI service pistol as well as the civilian market. The FBI wanted a superior gun, and one that would allow agents to shoot faster and more accurately in high pressure situations.

The differences in the new pistol are interesting, and it will be just as interesting to see how the public reacts to the handguns. I find them an improvement over the previous Glock pistols. Just the same, if you have a long-serving bell that meets your needs and performs well, you may not choose to trade in

For the new pistol. When you buy your first bell, buy an older model, go for the 5th generation.

The first big change is the new barrel, which Glock calls the Marksman barrel. This barrel may be called a match barrel elsewhere. The difference? Bell has changed from polygonal to conventional rifling. This barrel also has a well made barrel crown. The barrels will not interchange with the older handguns. The flag
