I've been using a Gen 5 Glock 19 since late August and have put about 4,000 rounds through it since then. I've been exposed to light with and without light along the rail, in both fixed precision and concealed motion defense exercises. I've spent time with disassembly, internal modifications and familiar with problems with replacement parts (since Glock's fun hobby kit).

The first and best reason to consider this pistol is that it is a Glock 19; Arguably the best gun ever It offers operational accuracy and substantial magazine capacity while being large enough to be a duty rifle and small and light enough for everyday concealment.

For the Gen 5 in particular, you may want to consider the new Glock 19 for several compelling reasons. First, the slide lock lever is now bi-directional So if you are left-handed, switch the mag-release to the right and you have a left-handed pistol. For those who like Glock pistols, but aren't finger-hollers, the Gen 5 comes with a flat frontstrap over the grip. No need for customization
With 2 notable exceptions, Gen 5 brings very little new to the shooting experience The Glock 19 is definitely a smooth shooting pistol, easy to maintain and definitely has an accuracy that will exceed 99.9% of the shooter's abilities. What's new to this experience is the new Gen 5 barrel and frontstrap flat grip.
Having shot a lot with the Gen 5 and Gl Glocks, I notice the lack of a thumb hole. I used to hold snugg ups to fill strong hands and now it feels different I don't find the difference too bad, but since the thumb holes fit the hand perfectly and I miss them on this pistol. I know a lot of people who never liked them, so many will be happy with this change

The new barrel rifling profile is considered twice as accurate at longer distances (4" group at 50 yards, Glock claims) I didn't find it good enough to get a 4" group at 50 yards, but I found there was a group at 25 yards. Gen 4 shooting is significantly shorter with Gen 5 I can't say for sure, but I would guess it's due to the more accurate barrel
The Gen 5 trigger may be slightly better than the Gen 4, but that's subjective and hard to say. The Gen 4 trigger assembly is very different from the Gen 4, being configured like a Glock 43. It has a "Newark" trigger spring that uses a polymer spring support and a compression spring (instead of a stretched spring hooking bar to the cruciform). ) I tried the 3.5lb connector and it made no difference in press weight So I tried the 2lb connector and got the 4.5lb press I wanted on my pistol Interesting

With the Gen 5 Glock 19 I haven't felt anything in ~4,000 rounds.Instead of the standard "chick" sound/feel of the slide at battery, there is the occasional "ka-chunk" that feels like a slight hesitation with the chamber round. As with other Glock pistols, the trigger guard on the Gen 5 G19 is very angular and generally uncomfortable for the middle finger of a strong hand when shooting. Therefore, I recommend that every Glock pistol should have a Dremel tool to create a smooth rounded profile at and below the junction of the trigger guard and taper there. The Glock 19 is not very easy to maneuver and is very easy to maneuver again The location of the magazine release is good and I only had to change my stance slightly (as I do on every pistol) to make it work for medium sized hands. Even with the Glock's minimalist slide-lock lever, my grip often interfered with the lever and I found that the pistol would not load the last round of the magazine in time. Although compact, the Glock 19 is larger than some in its class However, with a good and well-designed holster, it is easy to hide in many places on your belt, inside the waist or outside. I carry a Glock 19 with the light in the attached position every day and never have a problem printing

The Glock 19's fifteen-plus-one capacity is pretty high, especially for a compact. There's no mistaking that the Glock 19 sets the standard for size to capacity ratio in the pistol world.
The Gen 5 Glock 19 slide is usually not equipped with a black Melonite finish that is then treated with an nDLC coating. The results are darker and, reportedly, more permanent I really like this new finish and the aesthetic it provides I can't say this for much longer However, I can say that repeatedly placing it on gravel in practice will scratch the slide and stain the finish, as seen here:

Like the polymer frame gen 4, the sides are slightly flared to mimic a magwell (it's just an imitation) and the toe holes on the frontstrap are gone. Gen 5 has only one pin near the locking block instead of the usual 2 pins for newer generations. Perhaps because of this change, the frame is slightly wider and slightly longer than the Gen 4 The grip texture is similar to the Gen 4 and is serviceable, unless you have wet or bloody hands (so, be sure to check if your Glock carries a pistol).
