The Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite is a semi-automatic pistol chambered in .22LR, it is available in a variety of colors and comes with a Picatinny rail, making it easy to attach to a red dot pistol. It is equipped with a threaded stainless steel barrel that allows shooters to easily add suppressors or compensators. The Mark IV 22/45 has lightweight aluminum receiver ports that help keep the pistol weight as light as 25 ounces.
Roger's suggested retail price for the Mark IV 22/45 Lite is $699.00, but you can usually find it for under $600.
Ruger's favorite enhancement to all Mark IV pistols is the easy removal of a button for disengaging the scope of the pistol. Mark I, II and III pistols are difficult to disassemble for thorough cleaning. During my time at the shooting range, we offered Mark IIs for rent to shooters to try out in the field. Because separation is difficult, therefore, no employee wants to clean well. And this is often neglected. Roger solved this pain point by removing one button from the Mark IV pistol. Pushing a button on the back of the frame moves the barrel-receiver assembly up and away from the grip frame.

What I like about the Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite is that there is a lot of aftermarket support for the pistol. Companies like Tandemkross and Volquartsen offer many different upgrades and replacements for the pistol. We cover the best Roger Mark IV 22/45 Lite upgrades in another article.
Shooters who love 1911s will love the grip angle of the Mark IV 22/45 Light, which is comparable to the classic 1911. That's why it's designated 22/45 because it's a .22LR, but the angle of the frame and the angle of the grip. Designed after the .45ACP 1911.
The 1911-style checker grip panels are a rubberized material that makes for a comfortable grip on the gun and ensures your hand doesn't slip. Unlike some polymer grips, the gun's serrated front and checkered back strap also provide a secure grip on the gun.
The Mark IV 22/45 Lite has a fixed front sight and an adjustable rear sight. Both images are black. But you can replace the front sight with an aftermarket fiber optic front sight.
Range Report: Mark Iv 22/45 Lite
The first time I photographed the Mark IV Lite, I noticed that my eyesight was not very clear. Fortunately, this is easy thanks to the adjustable rear sight. There is an adjustment screw at the top of the rear sight. I recommend taking a little time to sight the gun when you first shoot.
The Mark IV light trigger and trigger pull could have been better. The curved trigger on the rifle feels wrong to me because of the 1911 style grip and grip angle—I expected a flat trigger like a 1911. I changed the trigger on my competition rifle. With an aftermarket flat trigger face for this reason.
Pulling the trigger is a long, heavy and stiff pull, with most shooters measuring a 5-pound pull. Fortunately, there is a solution to this problem. Including an aftermarket kit or a small kitchen tabletop shotgun.
Next, let's look at the Mark IV 22/45 Lite controls. We will look at safety. Magazine release, bolt stopper and bolt eye

Left-handers are in luck because the Mark IV 22/45 Lite has a wide thumb safety. you need
Safety, easy to open and close When the gun is in the safe you will see a white dot below the safety switch. A red dot will appear when the gun is not secured.
I like to put my finger on the safety when shooting. As I did with the 1911, I found it impossible to do this with the Mark IV 22/45 Light Safety due to its small size. Fortunately, there are great aftermarket safety devices that solve this problem and help with grip and control.
The magazine release on the Mark IV Lite is a circular button behind the trigger. If I try to reload quickly this button will be difficult to reach and manipulate. It works really well, pulling the magazine out of the gun.

Unlike other semi-automatic pistols, the Mark IV 22/45 Lite does not have a slide that moves up and down. Instead, it has a bolt eye and a bolt stop. There is a bolt access on the rear of the gun. You use your thumb and thumb to pull back the latch handle. However the bolt handles are serrated to make their grip easier. But I found the whole process of extracting the bolt was messy. I was pointed by the bolt handle when my finger was cut off. During the steel challenge, I failed to fire a malfunction from the dirty ammo and needed to drop the bolt. This is hard to do quickly. And my sweaty hands fell off the bolt on the first try.
When inserting an empty magazine into the gun the latch will open when you pull it back. If you want to lock the bolt without inserting an empty magazine, press the latch stop-up with your thumb while pulling the latch back. Press down on the latch stop to release the open bag. If it feels stiff or tight you may need to back the bolt off a bit while lowering the bolt stop.
The Roger Mark IV 22/45 Light magazine is a single-stack, 10-round magazine with a reload assist button. To use the loading helper just press the help button to load enough orbs to load. The load assist system is good though. But once I got the swelling from using it all day during a race.
Fortunately, there are a few tools you can use to get around this. The first is a mag pal – or something similar – that sits on top of the magazine and gives you more room to lower the load.

Another option is the Ultimate Clayloader, to use this, load empty ammo into the loader. Shake to adjust the pills. Load an empty magazine into the loader. Then pump the magazine in and out of the loader slightly to reload. Although this method is quick and easy. But I found Ultimate ClipLoader to be somewhat unreliable if you deviate from the loading instructions.
The Mark IV 22/45 Lite has been my Steel Challenge competition rifle for the past few years. In that time I have found that some .22LR rounds do not run as smoothly as others. Any .22LR round that sticks out of the frame causes trouble for the rifle. I also found that it would leave my magazines sticky. Of all the bullets I've gone through I've had the most problems with the Aguila ammo. On the other hand, exclusively using Federal Championship .22LR 40gr ammunition.
The Mark IV Lite is a precision rifle. I shot steel at several hundred yards with no issues. Almost no recoil makes it fun to photograph
Shooters must be careful not to bump the magazine against the Mark IV 22/45 Lite. When I did this on the Mark IV 22/45 Lite, some of my hands could get stuck between the magazine and the grip frame. This causes a lot of painful pressure. You shouldn't slam into the magazine though. It's easy to accidentally skip it all the way. And it will fall off the gun when fired.
