Not normal, that is, unless the rifle is chambered in the "other" .22 - the .22 long rifle. This is not a centerfire MSR, but a clever attempt to make a "downgraded" .22 look like one.
Mossberg 702 .22lr Plinkster
Why would anyone want to own a .22 LR version of the .223/5.56 AR? Well, to reduce it to two words, it's a cheap exercise. The rifle itself (aside from its lighter weight) is quite similar to my AR in terms of handling, sight, and ergonomics. But… this particular rifle is not an AR, we have to remember that. This gun is based on and uses the Mossberg 702 Plinkster, and (like the 702) was manufactured in Brazil by Companhia Brasileira de Cartuchos (CBC). Mossberg imports and sells both models. It's essentially the same in the 702's AR-style plastic grip.
If you're looking for a more traditional AR rimfire for your .223, check out the H&K 416 or the S&W M&P 15-22...those rifles are modeled after the more familiar AR with similar controls. The most noticeable difference between the 715T and the .223 AR, as mentioned above, is when you pick it up – it's pretty light. Since it is not designed to handle the 50,000 pounds of pressure generated by the .223, it can be made from less metal and is therefore lighter in weight. Since the receiver is made of polymer rather than aluminum alloy, the gun weighs only 5.5 pounds. Very easy shoulder, but more about photography later. But it really does look like an AR.
Another purpose of this rifle is to welcome a young shooter to the world of rimfire. The "cool" factor is off the charts for this Mossberg...see a youngster (now learning to shoot) choosing a 702 style gun over something that looks like an AR? I've had a lot of first-hand experience with young shooters, and I think the 715T would be the underdog in this contest. Imagine a young man who wants a "real" rifle for Christmas opens the package and pulls an AR-style rifle out of the box. This will surely make that guy or girl happy.

Originally with the well-known Colt-style carry handle and built-in adjustable "iron" (albeit plastic) sights, in 2012 Mossberg introduced the flat-top version I made. With or without a red dot sight, this pistol allows you to customize the accessories you want to add. You can stick most AR style doodads on the 3-6-9-12 Picatinny rail... Mine had a Barska red dot attached. A not-so-good "feature" of the Picatinny rail - the edges of the rail are sharp and my hand hurt after a decently long shoot. You can buy a rail cover to fill the gaps or install a vertical rail. If I owned this gun I would do this as I have a vertical grip in my gun bag and I borrowed the gun. This is minor and to be expected with a rail equipped rifle, but something to be aware of.
Barska 50mm red dot sight. This $50 look has 11 levels of spot brightness. The 5-MOA point worked well.
